Summer 1999 at the Mississippi River, with Christopher, Bethany, Justin and Andrew. This photo was taken behind The Mark of the Quad-Cities, our award-winning civic center built in the early 1990's on land donated by Deere & Company. When John Deere came to Moline in 1847 with his booming self-scouring steel plow business, he acquired much prime land along the river for his factories and depots, because the Mississippi was the primary avenue for transportation at the time. In recent decades, Deere & Company has donated many choice parcels to the city of Moline.
